Residents of the Village voted in November 2023 to enable New Concord to join aggregation programs to manage its electricity and natural gas. New Concord chose the expertise of SOPEC to manage its energy aggregation programs.
Eligible residents of the Village of New Concord will receive an opt-out letter for the electric program starting March 25th from the Sustainable Ohio Public Energy Council (SOPEC) and its electric supplier AEP Energy. Eligible residents are those on AEP Ohio’s standard service offer (sso). The letter will detail the program, including ways to opt-out of the program if you so choose.
Some important details to note are:
- Currently, the AEP Ohio standard service offer (sso) is $0.1132/kWh (11.32¢/kWh).
- New Concord’s governmental aggregation rate with SOPEC/AEP Energy is only $0.05893/kWh (5.893¢/kWh) (this includes 100% renewable energy).
- If you want to participate, DO NOT DO ANYTHING. You will be automatically enrolled.
- If you do not receive a letter, that means you are currently ineligible because you are either in the PIPP Program (income based payment), are in an electric co-op, or are in a contract with another energy supplier.
- If you are in another contract, once that contract has ended you may proactively enroll in this aggregation program by calling the same number on the letter 1-877-648-1937 and ask to be enrolled in New Concord’s governmental electric aggregation program.
- Your bill will still come from AEP Ohio. They will also still maintain the lines, what will change is your supplier, AEP Energy, and the generation rate. Generation is how much electricity you use. On your bill, it is multiplied by your rate. Generation rates appear on your bill in dollars. If you participate in New Concord’s governmental aggregation it will look like this: $0.05893/kWh.
