MU Music, History, & Art & Design: Voices of Change

February 23
Free

The public is invited to enjoy “Voices of Change,” a cross-departmental collaboration between Music, History, and Art & Design taking place the last week in February. This series highlights the ways art, music, and public expression have shaped culture, driven activism, and amplified underrepresented voices.The Muskingum Valley Symphonic Winds will be joined by the Muskingum Wind Ensemble for a performance in collaboration with History and Art & Design that will mark the opening of the art exhibition of “Voices of Change.” The concert will include narration written and spoken by students and concertgoers will be encouraged to visit the “Voices of Change” art exhibition immediately after the concert. The concert will be held in Brown Chapel at 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 22 and the art exhibit runs Feb. 22 – Mar. 8.

The week includes:
• a multimedia Symphonic Winds/Wind Ensemble concert inspired by historical figures and movements;
• an LGBTQ-centered program with interactive activities and discussion
• a folk music concert in the spirit of protest music from the 1960s and 1970s

Student work from HIST 390 and HIST 360 will be featured in the Palmer Gallery, curated and built in collaboration with Tom German, who is also creating a video presentation honoring Rosa Parks for Sunday’s concert.
